New Acropolis in Atlanta

New Acropolis Cultural Association in Atlanta is located at 409 Mead Rd. Unit 4 in Decatur, GA, 30030. We are a group of volunteers, dedicated to helping all people in metro-Atlanta live more meaningful and thoughtful lives through classes in eastern and western philosophy, seminars, yoga, tai, meditation and community service.

We aim to help move society towards greater degrees of self-knowledge and social responsibility through the promotion of philosophical knowledge, eastern and western wisdom, and culture.

At New Acropolis, someone can take a yoga class, volunteer for a park cleanup, or study the rich symbolism of Sub-Saharan Africa in our Symbology class. Our activities are varied because human beings need a variety of experiences to help them come to "know themselves," as the ancient, Pre-Socratic philosophers used to say.

Our Work

New Acropolis aims to help our world achieve greater individual and collective understanding and respect through voluntary work in three major areas: philosophy, culture, volunteering.

Philosophy - Philosophical Education through courses, workshops, seminars, lectures, debates, annual celebration of World Philosophy Day, libraries, publication of books, magazines and research journals.

Culture - Cultural education through exhibitions, creative workshops, literary and music competitions, theatre groups, cultural tours, sports and martial arts, traditional festivals, fairs and conferences.

Volunteering - Volunteer opportunities include building centers of philosophical training, restoration of historic monuments, environmental education, cleaning of rivers, beaches and city centres, forest fire prevention campaigns, reforestation, campaigns for tolerance and solidarity, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief.

Around the World

New Acropolis was founded in 1957 in Buenos Aires (Argentina) by historian and philosopher Jorge Ángel Livraga Rizzi (1930-1991).

Our Three Principles:

Guiding all of our work worldwide:

1- Fraternity

To promote an Ideal of international fraternity, based on respect for human dignity, beyond racial, sexual, cultural, religious, social or other differences.

2- Knowledge

To encourage the love of wisdom through the comparative study of philosophies, religions, sciences and arts, in order to promote the knowledge of the human being, the laws of Nature and the Universe.

3- Development

Our work results in better individuals who bring sustainability to social development. The human being still has an enormous latent potential. To know it and develop it is one of the fundamental pillars of life itself and provides a source of lasting satisfaction. The achievement of harmony between thought, feeling and action is a goal for every human being. A balanced and all-round development of oneself, and the actualization of the best qualities and values of our human nature, are probably the only guarantee of moving towards a better world.
