What is a human being? Most people never actually confront this question. Many thinkers, philosophers, poets, and contemplatives throughout history have considered this question the most important of all. Are we our thoughts, our feelings, our sensations? Teachings from India and Egypt seem to suggest that we are not what we think we are. The English word personality consists of our thoughts, emotions, and physical body. It comes from the Latin word persona which means mask. Based on the origins of the word, what we think we are is simply a mask covering something more authentic, luminous and awake.
In this class we’ll explore three key ideas:
What is a Human Being?
Universal Principles in the Human Being
The Sevenfold Constitution of the Human Being
